Sarah Reasoner is an associate in Miller Canfield's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group. She focuses her practice on intellectual property disputes, municipal law, commercial contract disputes, and real property disputes.

She graduated with honors from University of Michigan Law School, where she was a competitor and student coach on the Trial Advocacy Team and a student attorney in the Civil/Criminal Litigation Clinic. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree summa cum laude from Eastern Michigan University.

Sarah previously served as a law clerk at the Ann Arbor City Attorney's Office and Legal Services of South-Central Michigan.

Representative Matters

  • Successfully represented Drop, Inc., a communications technology company, in a trade secret misappropriation case against its former consultant, securing a preliminary injunction after hard-fought litigation and achieving a favorable default judgment.
  • Counsel for Encompass Pet Group, LLC in a case alleging that defendants engaged in unfair competition and infringement of Encompass’s intellectual property related to its highly successful SNUGGLE PUPPY® pet toy.
  • Successfully prosecuted and defended Michigan’s largest public utility company in an operating and power purchase agreement dispute with a large energy cooperative concerning the retirement of a coal-fired electric energy plant.
  • In cooperation with ACLU of Michigan and others obtained an injunction in a national habeas class action to prevent the imminent deportation of hundreds of Iraqi nationals without due process in the immigration courts. Clients are primarily Catholic, Kurdish and other religions and ethnic minorities, facing persecution, torture and possibly death if returned to Iraq. The team also successfully obtained an injunction ordering bond hearings to determine if the roughly 300 class members that have been in prolonged detention should be released.
  • Successfully defended the City of St. Clair Shores in a landmark class action, securing a published decision that upheld municipalities’ ability to use Act 345 funds for retiree healthcare benefits alongside pensions.
  • Represented the City of Kalamazoo and its current and former officials in a high-profile environmental and constitutional class action involving allegations of pollution, federal and state environmental statutory violations, and racial discrimination, successfully securing denial of class certification and dismissal of all claims and vindicating the City and its officials.
  • Representing an information technology company buyer in a post-M&A dispute against thirty sellers, involving claims of fraudulent inducement and breaches of warranties and representations
