U.S. CIS Announces Change in Photo Specifications for Applications

August 3, 2004

On August 1, 2004 U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services ("CIS") announced that the old three-quarter view photo specifications will no longer be used to process immigration benefit applications. The new photograph standard will be a full, frontal face position, passport style photograph of the applicant in color. This new standard takes effect on August 2, 2004.

CIS will accept both the three-quarter and full frontal passport style photographs until September 1, 2004. After that date, only the full, frontal color photographs will be accepted. All those applications currently pending with CIS that contained the three-quarter view photographs will be processed by CIS. After September 1, 2004, any applications submitted with three-quarter view photographs will be rejected and returned to the applicant.
