Paul advises clients on various real estate transactional matters, including matters related to property development, financing and economic development.
Paul’s practice focuses on advising clients on state and local economic development and incentive packages for various development projects, particularly in the advanced manufacturing industry. This includes advising clients on the availability and parameters of various incentives as well as negotiating with the state and local community to secure the incentive awards and bring these projects to fruition. In addition, Paul also has extensive experience in lending matters related to acquisition, development, and construction financings transactions, with a particular focus on representing banks and other lending institutions on such transactions.
Paul also advises clients on other real estate related matters, including the negotiation of intricate commercial leases on behalf of various multinational corporations, as well as advising utility companies on title matters related to renewable energy projects.
Prior to joining Miller Canfield, Paul served as Deputy General Counsel for the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, where he was involved in various economic development matters, which includes the negotiation of various agreements related to tax increment financing, and real estate finance transactions for various mixed-use and commercial developments.
Representative Matters
- Representation of a global manufacturer in its $150 million expansion of grid technology operations in North Carolina, negotiating economic development incentives and design and construction contracts while securing zoning variances, enabling the client to address the national shortage of large power transformers, advance the US’s ability to meet its green energy demands, and create over 500 new jobs.
- Representation of a global renewable energy company in the expansion of its wind turbine blade manufacturing facility, negotiating economic development incentives across three states for an estimated $150 million investment, creating 570 jobs and supporting the growing demand for green energy.
