James Johnson is an associate in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group. Johnson brings a wealth of experience in both civil and criminal litigation, including contract disputes, insurance law, arbitration, property law, and claims involving alleged fraud, civil RICO, the False Claims Act, class actions, and FLSA collective action and individual claims.
Prior to joining Miller Canfield, James served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Victoria A. Roberts and the Honorable Gershwin A. Drain in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He also contributes to the legal community through his roles as a Minority Bar Passage Program Tutor and a Judicial Externship Program Advisor for the Wolverine Bar Association in Detroit.
James earned his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School, where he distinguished himself as a Damon J. Keith Scholar, an associate articles editor for the Journal of Law and Society, and a member of the Wayne Law Moot Court team. He also served as president of the Black Law Students Association. During his time at Wayne Law, James gained further experience as an intern for the Honorable Laurie J. Michelson in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and participated in the Business and Community Law Clinic.
