Katrina Desmond Named a Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s Up & Coming Lawyer
Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Katrina P. Desmond has been named among Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s Up & Coming Lawyers.
The annual Up & Coming Lawyers recognition honors attorneys who are establishing a name for themselves and who display ambition, drive, determination and accomplishments setting them apart from their peers.
Desmond is an associate in Miller Canfield’s Public Finance Group, and is a licensed attorney and Certified Public Accountant. A 2011 graduate of University of Michigan Law School, she is one of approximately 150 nationwide who work extensively in the area of law dealing with the highly complex Internal Revenue Code Section 103.
“Katrina’s skill set and approach is far more sophisticated than one would expect to see in an attorney who has been practicing for less than 10 years,” said Miller Canfield CEO Mike McGee. “She is an asset to the firm and to our clients.”
Desmond worked on all recent major transactions related to the City of Detroit bankruptcy, ensuring that the restructuring of the city’s tax-exempt debt complies and will continue to comply with the federal tax exemption, resulting in overall lower debt costs for the city. She is also on the team of attorneys who worked on the Detroit Public Schools transition from “OldCo” to “NewCo,” preserving the school district’s ability to continue serving students in Detroit. Desmond has worked as special tax counsel on complex deals and bond issues totaling billions of dollars, which fund large capital projects at Michigan universities and public buildings.
Michigan Lawyers Weekly will recognize the Class of 2016 Up & Coming Lawyers at a luncheon on Dec. 1.
