Miller Canfield Elects Tom Colis to Serve as Managing Directors Chair

April 24, 2019

Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Thomas D. Colis has been elected to serve as the new Chairman of the Managing Directors, the firm’s five-member management administration.

Colis, a principal and deputy leader of Miller Canfield’s Public Finance Group, will serve a one-year term. He joined the firm in 1993 and has been a Managing Director since 2014. He has chaired the Mentoring Committee, on which he currently serves, along with the Diversity, Collections and Associate Principal committees.

“Tom’s leadership style is people-centered and hands-on. He believes strongly in continuing to make Miller Canfield a firm that is welcoming and inclusive,” said Miller Canfield CEO Michael McGee. “He looks forward to continuing the firm’s work on increasing its geographic footprint and visibility in the market.”

Colis succeeds Megan Norris, who stepped down from the Managing Directors earlier this year after serving as Chair since 2013. Norris, who is the firm’s Employment and Labor Group Leader, was the first woman at Miller Canfield to be elected as Chair.

Colis is recognized among “Best Lawyers in America” in Public Finance Law and was named a 2019 Public Finance Lawyer of the Year. He is also a dBusiness Magazine Top Lawyer in Public Finance. He serves on the board of the Michigan Government Finance Officers Association and is the treasurer of the Washtenaw County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
