Public Finance Attorney Nicholas Colvin Joins Miller Canfield

March 5, 2019

Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that public finance attorney Nicholas Colvin has joined the firm. He will work in the firm's Detroit and Lansing, Michigan, locations.

Before joining Miller Canfield, Colvin worked for the City Of Chicago as the chief legal officer for Treasurer Kurt Summers and was tasked with investing more than $7 billion of public funds. He oversaw compliance with federal, state and local laws related to the investment and management of city funds, as well as matters related to employment, ethics, procurement, Freedom of Information Act and the Open Meetings Act. Prior to that experience, he worked at a corporate law firm in Chicago.

Early in his legal career, he was a Special Assistant to the White House Counsel during President Barack Obama's first term. He provided West Wing support to the White House Counsel and Deputy White House Counsel and served on a team responsible for identifying potential Supreme Court justices.

"We are pleased to have Nick join us. He has unique experience in the City and the West Wing that lend additional client-focused insight to our powerhouse of a Public Finance Group," said Miller Canfield CEO Michael McGee.

Colvin is a graduate of Harvard Law School and earned his Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Michigan.
