ITC VP Matthew Carstens Joins Miller Canfield

August 29, 2018

LANSING, Mich. (Aug. 29, 2018)— Matthew Carstens, former Vice President and General Counsel, Utility Operations at ITC Holdings, has joined Miller Canfield's Energy and Environmental Group in the firm's Lansing, Michigan, office.

"Matthew is a great addition to our Energy and Environmental Group, which is recognized as a leader in the Great Lakes region," said Miller Canfield CEO Michael McGee. "His background and experience will add an insider's perspective to our group as it meets the demand for legal services in the energy sector, which is increasing as a result of Michigan's renewable energy legislation and the world's changing energy supply portfolio."

While at ITC Holdings, Carstens provided guidance and legal support for construction and maintenance of ITC's transmission assets, including state regulatory siting proceedings, right-of-way interpretation and acquisition, condemnation, and related litigation. His work involved leading collaboration between internal stakeholders, regulators, municipalities and governing bodies.

Carstens earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law, his master's degree from American University, and his B.A. from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the Energy Bar Association and a Board member for Junior Achievement of Southeast Michigan.
