Marc Swanson Named to American Bankruptcy Institute’s “40 Under 40”
The American Bankruptcy Institute has named Miller Canfield Principal Attorney Marc Swanson in the 2019 class of its 40 Under 40 program, which identifies top industry professionals under the age of 40 and recognizes them for their leadership and professional accomplishments.
Swanson, who is the deputy chair of Miller Canfield’s Bankruptcy Group, was recognized for his extensive work in complex and high-profile matters. This includes serving as the current lead attorney in the City of Detroit bankruptcy, the largest and most complex municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, and successfully arguing each of his three appeals at the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
In 2017, Swanson was selected for Leadership Detroit, an initiative of the Detroit Regional Chamber. He co-founded the Debtor/Creditor Rights section of the Detroit Bar Association and serves as the vice-chair. He is the co-chair of the Debtor/Creditor Rights Section of the Michigan Bar Association and has led several events for this section, including the publication of the spring edition of the Michigan Bar Journal. In June 2019, Swanson was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors for the Detroit Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association. Swanson is also on the Board of Directors at Cass Community Social Services, a Detroit-based agency dedicated to providing food, housing, health services and job programs.
