Detroit Bar Association Recognizes Miller Canfield Lawyers for Pro Bono Efforts

November 19, 2021

The Detroit Bar Association has recognized Miller Canfield attorneys Timothy D. Kroninger, Nashara Peart, Wendy Richards and Marc Swanson for their contributions to pro bono in 2021.

Timothy Kroninger, an associate in Miller Canfield’s Intellectual Property Group, assists low-income entrepreneurs through the University of Detroit Mercy Law’s Trademark and Entrepreneur Clinic and referrals from Michigan Community Resources.

Nashara Peart, an associate in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group, has helped several prisoners avail their rights through the Eastern District of Michigan’s pro bono referral program.

Wendy Richards is a principal and the leader of Miller Canfield’s pro bono program. In one of her significant projects in 2021, she works with Lakeshore Legal Aid, the Michigan Department of State, the Michigan Attorney General’s Office and corporate partners on an initiative to help drivers restore their licenses and enhance workforce development opportunities in vulnerable communities. She also assists Michigan Community Resources in managing its remote COVID-19 Small Business Clinic in Detroit.

Marc Swanson is a principal and the leader of the firm’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Insolvency Group. Through referrals from Michigan Community Resources, he has been instrumental in assisting nonprofits and small businesses serving vulnerable communities. He also frequently takes matters through the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan guiding low-income individuals through bankruptcy lawsuits.

Pro Bono awardees are Detroit Bar members who contributed 30 hours of pro bono work from Nov. 1, 2020, through Oct. 31, 2021, by volunteering for the Detroit Legal Services Clinic or for one of the many pro bono opportunities listed on the Detroit Bar Gateway. They are recognized at the association’s annual Dennis W. Archer Public Service Award Gala, which was held on Nov. 18.
