Miller Canfield's Joseph Uhl Named Pro Bono Attorney of the Year by Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc.
Miller Canfield associate Joseph Uhl (Detroit) will be presented with the 2011 Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award by the Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LAD) at the upcoming inaugural “Laddys” Pro Bono Award Ceremony in November.
LAD pro bono attorneys are an essential part of the legal services offered by the association and these individuals commit their time and talents to those who cannot afford legal assistance to assure they get the help they need.
For more than 100 years, the Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LAD) has been Michigan's largest provider of free civil legal services to low-income residents. It serves metropolitan Detroit through its offices in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. It also represents criminal defendants in Wayne County and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Including brief consultations and comprehensive legal services, the public law firm handles some 15,000 legal matters yearly.
At Miller Canfield, Uhl specializes in litigation, compliance, training, counseling and planning in all employment-related matters. He is active in the State Bar of Michigan, was a 2010 Pro Bono Honoree for the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter. Uhl earned his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and his M.A. and B.A. from Western Michigan University.
