Miller Canfield Lawyer Kurt Sherwood Provides Labor and Employment Law Updates in Michigan and Tennessee

October 27, 2009

Kurt N. Sherwood, a principal in the Labor and Employment Group in the Kalamazoo office of Miller Canfield, has spoken at numerous seminars on labor and employment law-related topics recently. He provided a legal update at the Michigan Community College Human Resource Association’s fall conference in Bay Harbor; gave an update to the Kalamazoo Area Labor Management Committee; and spoke at the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) International Training Conference & Exposition, as well as at the IPAC Annual Conference, both in Nashville.

In Nashville, his discussion included Labor Relations 101 to attendees primarily from “right-to-work” states who are extremely concerned about pending Federal legislation called the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act, which would extend organizing and bargaining rights to all public safety personnel. He also participated in a three-hour panel discussion on various labor relations issues.

He is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Kalamazoo County Bar Association, Michigan Public Employer Labor Relations Association, National Association of College and University Attorneys, and the Kalamazoo Area Labor-Management Association.
