October 29, 2008

The Detroit-based law firm of Miller Canfield has been recognized as one of the Top Work Places in 2008 based on a survey of employees throughout Southeast Michigan conducted for the Detroit Free Press.

Miller Canfield joined Google and ePrize in the medium-size award category.  More than half of Miller Canfield’s 800 employees worldwide work in the region.

“We are thrilled to be the ‘elder’ employer among such innovative technology firms,” said firm CEO Michael W. Hartmann.  “It reflects our 156-year commitment to attracting and retaining top talent and building the best legal team for our clients.”

Among the areas measured in the survey were pay, benefits, leadership and career growth.

“I am given the freedom to get my job done without ‘micromanaging,’” said one Miller Canfield employee who was quoted in the October 19, 2008, edition of the Free Press.  “My opinions are taken into consideration and often acted on.”

Attorney and managing director Michael P. McGee chairs the firm’s recruiting committee.  “Attorneys want to be part of a great work environment,” he said.  “Who doesn’t?”

Miller Canfield was established in Detroit in 1852. The firm employs 800 in offices in Michigan, Illinois, Massachusetts, Florida, New York, Canada, and Poland.
