Miller Canfield Introduces Services for Japanese Businesses

The law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. has formally established a Japanese Business Group as part of its International Business Services Group. The group will deliver Japanese style service to Japanese clients with an aim to promptly and carefully assist clients conducting business operations in the United States. All manner of legal services are available, from corporate planning to immigration services.

The Japanese Business Group is led by J. David Reck. According to Mr. Reck, "Working with Japanese businesses has provided some of the most rewarding opportunities of my legal career. We are pleased to announce that this expansion brings additional expertise and expanded capability to our service of Japanese clients."

Members of the group include J. David Reck, Catherine M. Collins, and Mizuho Terakado.

J. David Reck brings to the group a long career filled with a broad range of legal experience. His professional legal experience includes working in the judicial system, city government, academia, and in private practice. He has been extensively involved in developing the practice of international business law in Michigan through his affiliations with the International Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan's International Law Section, and the Detroit Regional Chamber. He chaired the International Law NAFTA Symposium in Detroit in 1993 and was a panelist on the U.S. Customs International Trade Fair in Detroit in 1992. He brings to the group his dedication and many years of experience counseling Japanese manufacturers in Michigan.

, resident in the Detroit office, worked in Niigata-ken, Japan for several years as an English instructor for a Japanese manufacturer. She received her law degree from The University of Michigan Law School where she was associate editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law. She holds two Masters degrees; one in linguistics from Indiana University, and one in French literature from The University of Michigan. Her B.A. was received with distinction from Indiana University where she majored in French literature. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Japan Business Society of Detroit, French-American Chamber of Commerce, Women in International Trade, and the Japan America Society. She speaks Japanese and French., of the Detroit office, is a native of Japan and serves as the Japanese Business Group Administrator. She received both her M.A. and B.A. in linguistics from Eastern Michigan University. She brings to the group several years of experience working behind the scenes of the southeast Michigan Japanese auto supply industry. She is a member of the Japan American Society and the Japanese Business Society of Detroit. She speaks fluent English.
