Miller Canfield Celebrates 50 Years in Oakland County

October 11, 2006

Miller Canfield, Michigan’s longest established law firm, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in Oakland County. It opened an office in the Wabeek Building in Birmingham in 1956, later relocating to Troy in 1999. The firm was founded in Detroit over 150 years ago and is well known for its corporate, public law, and personal services work.

“This anniversary marks a true milestone for Miller Canfield,” said Thomas W. Linn, CEO of Miller Canfield. “Our Birmingham office set the standard for ‘being where our clients need us’ and initiated our geographic expansion long before having multiple offices was common in the legal industry. Oakland County is an economic engine for the region and we're fortunate to work side-by-side with the local business people and governmental officials who contribute to its success.”

Miller Canfield's presence in Oakland County has grown to 62 attorneys and 79 staff members and paralegals. The firm is one of the top 10 largest law firms in Oakland County and the largest law firm in Michigan.

“We have thrived in Oakland County because our people care about the communities where they work and live,” said Kenneth E. Konop, resident director of the Troy office. “We are involved in civic and charitable organizations, as well as our children’s schools. We help local businesses get started and succeed, and write estate plans for our neighbors. It’s collaboration at its best.”

Miller Canfield will commemorate the golden milestone with a private client reception at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills.

The 350-attorney law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. was established in Detroit in 1852 and has offices in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Howell, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Monroe, Saginaw, and Troy, Michigan. Other offices are located in New York City, Naples and Pensacola, Florida, Windsor, Ontario, and in Gdynia, Warsaw, and Wroclaw, Poland.
