Miller Canfield Announces its Morning Update Series Focusing on Labor and Employment Law Issues
The law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. announces its Morning Update series – Wednesday morning informational seminars focusing on labor and employment law issues. Morning Updates are structured for human resources professionals, CEOs, and business owners.
Join us for the first Morning Update:
“The New Fair Labor Standards Act Regulations: What You Need to Know,” Wednesday, September 8, 2004, 8:00-9:00 a.m.
For the first time in 50 years the Department of Labor (DOL) has substantially revised its overtime regulations in which employees may be considered exempt from overtime because they are either executives, administrative employees, professionals or outside salespersons. At this Update employers will learn how the rules of the game have changed and, more importantly, how to protect themselves from possible liability as a result of litigation or a DOL investigation. The Update is presented by Miller Canfield labor and employment attorneys, Michael A. Alaimo and Christopher M. Trebilcock.
“In recent years, FLSA collective action lawsuits have been the most common type of class action lawsuit,” said Alaimo, a 15-year veteran in wage and hour investigations and litigation. “The Department of Labor has promised to vigorously enforce the new rules that started August 23. It is therefore critical for business owners, managers and key personnel to ensure that their companies are complying with the law.”
Look for these future Morning Updates:
•“A Practical Guide to Discipline and Discharge,” Wednesday, November 10, 2004
