Attorney Returns to Miller Canfield

Brant A. Freer has returned as senior counsel to the law firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. He first joined the firm as an associate in 1980, leaving in 1984 for California where he joined O'Melveny & Myers as a public finance/tax associate in their Los Angeles office. From 1987-94, he was a public finance/tax partner in the Los Angeles law firm of Mudge Rose Guthrie & Ferdon. He returned to Miller Canfield in 1996 until May 2000 when he joined the San Francisco-based law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, llp, where he headed knowledge management activities for three transactional practice groups.

From 1997-99, Mr. Freer directed Miller Canfield's Employee Benefits Practice Group, and served as deputy leader of the Tax and Benefits Practice Group prior to leaving in May 2000. Presently a member of the Public Law Group and Federal Tax and Employee Benefits Group, he focuses on the federal income tax aspects of public finance and federal tax issues generally. He also heads Miller Canfield's Information Systems Committee and directs the firm's knowledge management efforts.

He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the State Bar of California. His law degree was received cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, and his B.A., with honors, is from Michigan State University.

He resides in Bloomfield Hills.
