Miller Canfield mourns the tragic loss of friend and beloved colleague, Donald W. Keim, who died March 8, 2017, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Julia, his children, grandchildren, family and many friends. He will be missed both professionally and personally.
Don was a principal in Miller Canfield’s Public Finance Group. He joined the firm in 1977 and retired in 2012. Don received three degrees from the University of Michigan: an A.B. in 1964, a Ph.D. in political science in 1970 and a J.D. in 1977 and served as Professor of Political Science and Department Chair at Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea Ohio from 1969 to 1974. Don was a scholar who blended sound analysis with a practical approach to the practice of public finance law.
Don was an avid reader, writer and traveler. His passions included opera, politics, and good food and drink. He was a connoisseur of many things, from baseball to the Upper Peninsula, opera and fine dining both throughout Michigan and beyond. An accomplished athlete growing up in Avon Lake, Ohio, he shared his lifelong love of sports with his family. While his favorite was University of Michigan Football, he was happiest sitting in the stands watching baseball at any level, from the World Series to the minor leagues.
