DETROIT, MI (5 October 2015) – Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Megan P. Norris, chair of the firm’s managing directors and leader of the Employment and Labor Group (Detroit office), has been inducted as a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL). The ACTL recognizes experienced litigators who are in the top one percent of the trial lawyers in their jurisdiction. Being recognized as a Fellow is generally recognized as among the highest professional honors which may be earned by litigators.
Fellowship in the College is extended only by invitation, after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility, and collegiality, according to the American College of Trial Lawyers. Lawyers must have a minimum of 15 years of trial experience before they can be considered for fellowship. There are approximately 5,700 Fellows across the United States and Canada, including active, Emeritus, Judicial, and Honorary Fellows. Qualified lawyers are called to Fellowship in the College from all branches of trial practice. They are selected from advocates who represent plaintiffs or defendants in civil proceedings of all types, as well as prosecutors and criminal defense lawyers.
Norris counsels clients on all conceivable day-to-day employment matters, ranging from helping to determine appropriate discipline to advising on conducting sexual harassment investigations to developing plans of action for handling difficult employees. She also defends clients against a wide range of employment-related claims and conducts management trainings. She is a nationally recognized expert on the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. She co-authored Family & Medical Leave Act and the Law, a book published by ALM’s Law Journal Press.
She has been recognized for her work in Best Lawyers, in which she was named the 2015 Detroit Employment Law-Management Lawyer of the Year, Chambers USA and Michigan Super Lawyers. She also is a member of the national College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.
