Miller Canfield Adds Justyna (Balcarczyk) Regan to Chicago Office

CHICAGO (1 September 2015) – The law firm of Miller Canfield announces that it is expanding its Chicago office and Poland practice with the addition of  Justyna (Balcarczyk) Regan PhD., L.L.M.  A Poland licensed lawyer, Dr. Regan joins the firm from the prestigious law school in Poland - Wrocław University, Department of Law and Administration, Institute of Civil and Private International Law, where she taught conflict of laws and international intellectual property law as adjunct professor since 2007.

For more than 14 years, Dr. Regan has represented clients in software licensing, M&A transactions, corporate law, international financing and commercial transactions and international and European IP law. She previously managed the Wrocław office of the Studnicki Pleszka Cwiakalski Górski law firm.  She will be based in the firm’s Chicago office.

Dr. Regan will continue to focus on corporate transactions, IP and investment, supplementing Miller Canfield’s growing software licensing and IP corporate practice in the autonomous vehicle and venture start-up industries.  She will also be an integral part of the firm’s Poland team.  “We’re pleased to have Justyna join our team. With her experience, our three offices in Poland and increasing cross border business investment taking place in both the U.S. and Poland, she will be an excellent resource for automotive, manufacturing, finance, health care, agriculture and energy industry clients,” said Michael P. Miller Canfield established its first office in Warsaw in 1991 and helped the country write its first commercial banking laws.  Today, there are 17 lawyers in the firm’s Warsaw, Gdynia and Wrocław offices.

Dr. Regan received her Magister prawa, a Juris Doctor equivalent, at the University of Wrocław Law School in Poland. She then received an L.L.M. from Colombus School of Law at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. and a PhD in Civil Law from the University of Wrocław Law School. In 2011 she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship at Chicago-Kent College of Law. She has also taught several law school courses at University of Wrocław Poland and has lectured in Spain, Italy and Oxford. . She is a member of both the Advocates Society and The European Lawyers’ Union (U.A.E.) Born in Poland, Regan is fluent in Polish, English and Italian.
