Miller Canfield and Arizpe, Valdés & Marcos Form Affiliation To Serve Increased Client Demands in Mexico

August 14, 2015

The U.S. based law firm of Miller Canfield and the Mexico law firm of Arizpe, Valdés & Marcos announce that they have formally affiliated, in order to better serve the growing number of companies investing and doing business in the two countries. Miller Canfield first opened an office in Monterrey in 2009. This affiliation with Arizpe, Valdés & Marcos, based in Monterrey, Mexico, adds over 15 lawyers in Mexico.

Automotive and manufacturing companies are rapidly expanding their base of operations between the two countries, as Mexico is among the world’s most vibrant developing economies for foreign direct investment, especially from the U.S., Canada, China, Japan, Korea, Germany and other European companies.  “We needed to enlarge our capabilities in Mexico simply to keep up with demand,” according to Michael McGee, Miller Canfield’s CEO. “Mexico is a strategically vital market for our clients, especially those in automotive manufacturing, and because our firm is in a unique position to serve our clients in Mexico, we capitalized on this opportunity.”

The affiliation not only includes the additional lawyers in Mexico, but also Mexican licensed lawyers and business advisors based in the firm’s U.S. offices. Eduardo Arizpe, managing partner of the Mexican firm, added, “Our affiliation with Miller Canfield enables us to strengthen our combined Mexico practice and confirm our commitment to provide the highest standards in cross-border legal counseling for our current clients and for companies looking to establish, expand, sell or consolidate operations in Mexico.”

The two firms already represent many clients established and/or operating in Mexico and within NAFTA. Under their affiliation, each firm will coordinate providing legal advice and services, share office space and IT capabilities, and be able to better provide clients with seamless legal representation on Mexican matters.  Each of the five partners of Arizpe, Valdés & Marcos also have become of counsel to Miller Canfield:  Eduardo Arizpe, Miguel Valdés, Carlos Marcos, Arnulfo Treviño and Hector González.

In addition, the affiliation represents a further commitment of the firms to the Latin American market.  Recently, they announced the formation of The Legal Alliance of the Americas – an alliance of law firms throughout North and South America established to facilitate providing clients with legal services throughout the Western Hemisphere.
