In Memory of Senator, Miller Canfield Alumnus and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Robert Griffin
Miller Canfield joins the people of Michigan in expressing our condolences to the Griffin family at the passing of former Senator and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Robert Griffin.
Bob Griffin was a giant in Michigan political history. His contributions to the public good over a thirty-year career in public service – as a member of the U.S. House, then a member of the U.S. Senate, and finally as a Michigan Supreme Court Justice – place him in the first rank of Michigan’s governmental and political figures. Widely recognized for his intellect, good judgment, civility and fair-mindedness, Bob Griffin embodied the qualities in which Michiganders take great pride.
Miller Canfield was the beneficiary of Bob’s affability and judgment for seven years, starting in 1979 when he joined our firm until his election to the Supreme Court in 1986. When people would refer to him as “Senator,” he would waive them off and say, “Just call me Bob. I’m a simple guy from Traverse City.” Bob’s advice and counsel was often sought by those with tough legal and business questions. He would see to the heart of the matter and offer keen insight and suggestions which invariably would help resolve the issue. He was a good colleague and a good friend.
Our best wishes to his family and his many friends, with whom we celebrate a good man’s life, well lived.
