Jeffrey Drake Speaks to Internet Retailers about Patent Litigation

June 13, 2014

Miller Canfield principal Jeffrey Drake talked with e-commerce companies about defending against so-called “patent troll” litigation at the prestigious Internet Retailer Conference and Exposition (IRCE) in Chicago on June 11.

Drake’s presentation – “The Patent Battles: How to Do the Right Thing Without Caving in to Unfair Suits” – covered the current landscape surrounding patent infringement litigation, how to assess the legitimacy of a patent claim and when to fight back.

“With an ever increasing number of patents asserted against e-commerce companies, a plan to defend against a charge of patent infringement when it does happen is important,” said Drake.

Drake presented alongside Nathan Decker, Vice President of Marketing for EVO, an outdoor gear e-retailer based in Seattle, Wash.

The conference took place on the first day of the annual IRCE at the Chicago-McCormick Place. More information about IRCE can be found at its website, www.irce.com.
