Miller Canfield Advises Michigan Multispecialty Physicians on Integration with IHA
The law firm of Miller Canfield announces that it served as legal advisor to Michigan Multispecialty Physicians, P.C. (MMP) in its integration with IHA Health Services Corporation.
The transaction combines one of Southeast Michigan’s leading private multispecialty physician group practices with the area’s leading physician group practice and creates an organization that provides a seamless continuum of services to nearly 360,000 patients through 69 locations in Southeastern Michigan.
The Miller Canfield team, which was led by corporate and M&A principal Jeffrey L. LaBine (Ann Arbor and New York City offices), included employee benefits principal Kenneth J. Sachs (Troy, Mich. office), employment and labor principal Richard W. Warren (Detroit, Mich. office), healthcare senior attorney Billee Lightvoet Ward (Kalamazoo, Mich. office), and lawyers Brandy L. Mathie (Ann Arbor) and Amita Gopinath (New York City).
“The MMP integration exemplifies the client benefits of Miller Canfield’s holistic approach to M&A,” said LaBine. “We pulled together specialists in each of the legal areas implicated by the transaction to seamlessly ensure that the particular implications of each specialty area were considered and appropriately handled for this complex transaction.”
John Emerson, president and CEO of MMP, said, “In the highly complex and fast-changing regulatory environment of healthcare, it was critical to have a legal team with demonstrated wide-ranging industry specific M&A experience. Jeff LaBine led an exceptional team of legal specialists at an exciting time for MMP, helping us accelerate our business growth strategy and guiding management and the board of directors through integration with IHA.”
Miller Canfield has been representing clients in complex global business transactions for many years since the establishment of its first offices in Poland more than 20 years ago to the more recent opening of its office in Mexico. In the past year alone, the firm’s Mergers and Acquisitions practice has led transactions in and with Canada, China, Mexico, India, Brazil, Eastern Europe and Russia, in addition to those throughout the United States.
