Discussion on the Newly Released Defence Companies Index 2020 with Transparency International

On February 9, 2021, Transparency International-Defence and Security (TI-DS) publicly released its Defence Companies Index 2020 on Anti-Corruption and Corporate Transparency (DCI), which “assesses the levels of public commitment to anti-corruption and transparency in the corporate policies and procedures of 134 of the world’s largest defense companies.” The DCI 2020 ranks these defense companies from Bands A to F, ranging from a “very high” level of public commitment to anti-corruption and transparency in their corporate policies and procedures (Band A) to a “very low” level of public commitment (Band F). Unlike the Companies Index published in 2015, the DCI 2020 is based solely on information made publicly available by the 134 defense companies evaluated by TI-DS. The revised methodology developed for the DCI 2020 includes a greater focus on corporate transparency and the disclosure of information that can contribute to reducing corruption risks in the sector worldwide.
Our program will feature a discussion with members of the TI-DS team on the findings of the DCI 2020, as well as results and conclusions from these findings. The discussion will make suggestions for companies to consider in increasing and strengthening the transparency of their anti-corruption programs moving forward and explore how to continue benchmarking to improve standards and address some of the challenges encountered by certain companies in responding to the DCI 2020 questions. After TI-DS's presentation of approximately 45 minutes, the remaining time will be devoted to the TI-DS speakers responding to questions from attendees.
