What year did you graduate from law school and which law school?
1984 from Detroit College of Law (now MSU College of Law)
What year did you start at MCPS? What practice group were you in and what projects/cases did you particularly enjoy?
Following a two-year federal clerkship with U.S. District Court Judge Robert DeMascio, I started at MCPS in 1984 in the Commercial Litigation group. I enjoyed working on cases with partners, particularly Marjory Basile and Carl von Ende.
Describe a challenging/exciting/significant experience that you had while at MCPS.
One of the most interesting was when we represented a gasification plant in North Dakota in the early 1990s and I was traveling several days each week to take depositions in Bismarck, as well as Houston and Chicago, where some of the defendants were located. I even visited the plant once and, when the case was over, went with Marjory, Carl and co-counsel from Washington, D.C. to see the Badlands.
What is your fondest memory of your time at MCPS?
The great people in all roles throughout the firm – I was privileged to be able to call them co-workers!
If you could have dinner with one person you know from your Miller Canfield days, who would that be and why?
I couldn’t possibly choose just one.
When did you leave Miller Canfield and where did you go?
In May of 2013, I left and started my own firm, Ossian Law P.C.
Where do you work now?
Still at Ossian Law.P.C., but I will be semi-retiring as of May 1, 2021. I’ll be working as Of Counsel to a couple of firms that I work closely with now.
How would you describe your work day?
Fairly relaxed, particularly since the pandemic. Still busy, which is great.
What is the most interesting/challenging part of your job?
Coming up with creative, efficient solutions to assist my clients with their information technology transactional needs is definitely the most gratifying.
What do you miss most about your routine at MCPS that you don’t experience at your current job? Or, alternatively, how is your life/workday/routine different from your time at MCPS?
I miss the great support I had at MCPS but I have also found that I am still able to learn new skills to keep law practice management simple and affordable.
Would you mind telling us about your personal life (spouse, children, travels, hobbies, etc.)?
My husband, Jim Linn, and I have been married for 38 years. He is semi-retired, working two days a week in special education administration. We enjoy spending as much time as we can at our townhouse in the Leelanau Peninsula. Our daughter, Alicia, is in charge of communications at a company in metro Detroit and bought a condo in a nearby community. Our son, Matthew, is finishing his undergraduate degree this year at Wayne State University. We have enjoyed hiking the many trails in Leelanau over the past year!
Please describe anything else about your life and/or career/and/or your Miller Canfield days that has not been captured by these questions and that you think folks might find interesting.
I will always fondly recall the 27 years I spent at MCPS as a fulfilling part of my career and life in general!
