Colleagues,

The Managing Directors, The Pro Bono Committee and I are pleased to share with you the list of this year's Richard J. Seryak Award nominees.

Since the inception of the award in 2015, I have been awestruck by your deep commitment to pro bono service. It is a commitment that would have made Dick Seryak proud. During his 40-year legal career, he truly exemplified the standard of pro bono service, as do our nominees and our past winners: Reshma Sambare in 2015, Thom Linn in 2016, and Cara Houck and Kim Scott in 2017.

In honor of Dick's dedication to pro bono service, his widow, Dr. Helene Dombrowski, and his children, Elizabeth Seryak and Dr. Kaitlin Seryak, established this award to recognize our colleagues who continue his legacy. The Seryak family provides a stipend for the winner of the award to donate to the legal service organization of his or her choice.

I am proud to present this year's nominees:

  • Andrew Blum
  • Russell Bucher
  • Conor Fitzpatrick
  • Erika Giroux
  • Leo Goddeyne
  • David O'Brien
  • Tom Turner

We asked each nominee about their pro bono work and why they give so much of themselves in providing it. You can read their thoughtful and inspiring responses here.

We will announce the winner next week. In the meantime, I want to thank all of the nominees for their efforts. We appreciate your work for the greater good!

Mike McGee
