Colleagues, You're going to start seeing some familiar faces and maybe a new one or two around our offices. Several new and returning associates will soon join us this month. I ask you to join me and the managing directors in welcoming the latest additions to Miller Canfield. Joining us on Sept. 5 were: Russell Bucher, who joined the Energy and Environmental Group in Ann Arbor. Russell is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, where he graduated cum laude. Prior to joining Miller Canfield, Russell worked as an intern to the Honorable Laurie J. Michelson at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Russell has an M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as a degree in mathematics from the University of Chicago. He is also fluent in French, German and Hebrew. Erika Giroux, who joined the Bankruptcy Group in Detroit. Erika attended the University of Michigan Law School, where she graduated cum laude with a certificate of merit in bankruptcy. She also served as a moot court board member and an editor for the Michigan Law Review. She obtained her bachelor's degree in accounting from Wayne State University, where she graduated summa cum laude with University Honors and held the President's Award Scholarship. Jessica Pask, who joined the Employment and Labor Group in Detroit. Jessica holds dual degrees from both the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law as well as the University of Windsor School of Law. She also has two undergraduate degrees - in sociology, and in nutrition and nutraceutical science - from the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. Additionally, she has a master's degree in clinical studies from the veterinary college at the University of Guelph. She served as a moot court board member for the University of Detroit Mercy Law School and a citations editor for the University of Windsor Review of Social and Legal Issues. She has also worked as a Community Legal aid litigator. Stephen Ragatzki, who joined our Energy and Environmental Group in Grand Rapids. Stephen attended Michigan State University College of Law, where he graduated in the top 5 percent of his class, served as an associate editor for the International Law Review and participated in the Geoffrey Fieger Trial Practice Institute Litigation Program for two years. He also holds a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from Michigan State University, with a minor in educational studies. During his undergraduate studies, Stephen spent a year working with Teach for America in Chicago's public and charter schools, teaching both high school math and science. Joining us on Sept. 11 is: Ryan Elsey, who joins our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group in Detroit. Ryan has spent the last two years working as a clerk for the Honorable Laurie J. Michelson, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Prior to that, he worked for three years in the litigation department for a firm in Washington D.C. Ryan attended the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and the University of Detroit Mercy. To join us Sept. 18: Joel Bryant, who will rejoin our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group in Ann Arbor. Joel graduated from the University of Michigan Law School magna cum laude in 2014 and joined our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group at that time, working on complex litigation matters, including commercial disputes and criminal defense. He was offered an opportunity to work for the Honorable Helene N. White of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, which he did for a year, prior to returning to the firm.
