Joseph Infante, a principal in Miller Canfield’s Grand Rapids office, has been named among Grand Rapids Business Journal’s “40 Under Forty.” 

Infante was selected as a business leader in the community, not only for his outstanding work in law, and in particular craft beverage law, but also for the outstanding work he does for Hospice of West Michigan. This year, he and his wife Niki co-chaired the successful premiere fundraiser, Hospice of Michigan Barley, BBQ & Beats, which raised nearly $250,000.

Miller Canfield announces that 112 of its lawyers in 57 practice groups have been named as Best Lawyers in America by Best Lawyers 2017, with several attorneys reaching significant milestones of being a  Best Lawyer for 20, 25 or 30 years.

Additionally, 13 Miller Canfield lawyers were honored as “Lawyers of the Year,” receiving exceptionally high ratings in surveys, indicating the high level of respect earned among their peers for their skill, integrity and professionalism.

Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Dawn M. Schluter, a principal at the firm, has been named one of Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s Women in the Law for 2016.

The annual Women in the Law luncheon and awards ceremony recognizes and celebrates the significant contributions made by 30 women attorneys to the legal profession, their mentorship of other women and their commitment to giving back in the communities they serve. The luncheon will be held on Sept. 15, 2016.

“It is such an honor to be recognized along with so many talented and successful women attorneys,” Dawn said. “I thank Michigan Lawyers Weekly for their commitment to highlighting the excellent work of women lawyers.”

Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that principal attorney Dawn Schluter’s team in the inaugural Women in Law Hackathon, the national competition held to identify paths to achieve gender parity in law firms, was awarded third place among nine teams in the final presentations that took place last week in Palo Alto at Stanford Law School.

Miller Canfield joined with 53 other large U.S. law firms, and the only Michigan-headquartered firm, to participate in this important and innovative national conversation on advancing the careers of women in the legal profession.

The Hackathon was a unique “Shark Tank”-style invitation-only competition. Over a period of six months, each six-lawyer team generated comprehensive presentations of actionable ideas to improve gender parity in law firms. Each team presented innovative projects and initiatives in a final competitive pitch meeting last week at Stanford.

Miller Canfield is proud to announce that it has been identified for the second consecutive year as one BTI Consulting Group’s Most Recommend Law Firms in the country.

According to BTI, only 40 percent of corporate counsel recommend their primary law firm to a peer. To earn such a high honor, law firms must continuously deliver not only quality legal services, but superior client service.

In the interview, they discussed the firm’s long history, as well as the future of the firm, and the practice of law itself, as well  as law firm innovation and what it means in the delivery of client service, and one of the most significant disruptive technologies in the last decade—the autonomous car.

Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that it has been named one of 17 firms nationwide that general counsels would recommend to other energy companies.

According to a story published in Law 360, the BTI Power Rankings 2016 report identified the firm as one that has “earned the highest level of relationship strength—the combination of a firm’s being a client’s primary legal counsel and the frequency the client recommends the firm to others.”

Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Robert Murkowski has been elected to serve a two-year term on the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Board of Directors.

Murkowski is an associate in Miller Canfield’s Detroit office, and is a member of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution and Automotive groups, focusing on corporate litigation and complex business disputes.

He has been recognized as a rising star in business litigation, and was honored as an Up & Coming Lawyer by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. He is active in state and federal bar associations, and has served in a leadership position with the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel in addition to the DMBA, and has served on the Eastern Michigan University Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Miller Canfield Attorney Leo Goddeyne Wins Cummiskey Award for Pro Bono Service

Miller Canfield, a Michigan-based global law firm, is pleased to announce that Leo Goddeyne, an attorney in the firm’s Kalamazoo office, has won the prestigious State Bar of Michigan John W. Cummiskey Pro Bono Award, given annually to a member of the Michigan Bar for outstanding contributions in the pro bono arena. The announcement was made by Miller Canfield CEO Michael McGee.

“I can think of no one more deserving than Leo, whose tireless commitment to pro bono work for his nearly 40 years in the profession has inspired us all to give of ourselves,” McGee said. “Leo has been a leader of the firm’s pro bono efforts a member of the Pro Bono Committee since its inception, and during that time he has undertaken at least 75 separate pro bono matters, and recorded at least 2,000 hours of pro bono service in the past 15 years.”
