Bobby Murkowski has been elected to serve a one-year term as president-elect of the Detroit Bar Association. Murkowski was sworn in on Aug. 13, 2020, by Wayne County Circuit Court Chief Judge Timothy M. Kenny at the association's annual meeting. He will serve as president in the 2021-2022 term.

Bobby is a principal in Miller Canfield’s Detroit office. He is a member of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group and co-leader of its Automotive team. He represents clients in various complex commercial, corporate, antitrust, class action, tort, product liability and criminal defense matters in both federal and state courts and arbitrations.

We're happy to welcome Megan Baxter-Labut to our Bankruptcy Group. She'll be based in Detroit.

Megan's practice focuses on bankruptcy, insolvency, and commercial lending enforcement and litigation. She also has experience representing financial institutions and has participated in structuring, negotiating and documenting secured and unsecured commercial loans.

Miller Canfield congratulates its clients, the City of Detroit, and the Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority on the successful assembly of nearly 215 acres of property—without the use of eminent domain—that will enable Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to move forward with its highly publicized Mack Assembly project. FCA plans to invest $2.5 billion in the project, where it will build new versions of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, creating approximately 5,000 jobs.

We were honored to serve as bond counsel to Wayne County in connection with its deal to fund a $533 million criminal justice complex in partnership with the Michigan Finance Authority. The deal has now been named the Midwest Region Deal of the Year in The Bond Buyer, and is a finalist in the national 17^th Annual Deal of the Year awards.

We're very excited for the opening of The Corner Ballpark and the role we played in helping to revitalize the former site of Tiger Stadium. Thom Linn served on the Old Tiger Stadium Conservancy and along with David Mitchell played a crucial role in conceiving, funding and implementing the plans for the site. 

Miller Canfield attorney Richard Walawender has been appointed Honorary Consul of Poland in Detroit. The appointment marks the first time in nearly 70 years that Detroit has been home to a Polish consulate.
