Robert E. Lee Wright

Senior Counsel

Grand Rapids
T: 616.776.6334
O: 616.454.8656

Robert E. L. Wright has over 25 years' experience in general civil litigation with particular emphasis in alternative dispute resolution and commercial litigation, including bankruptcy.

As a neutral mediator, Bob helps parties find their own resolution by moderating their settlement negotiations, suggesting options, focusing them on their risks and rewards and guiding them to a beneficial agreement. When representing individual clients, he guides them through all types of dispute resolution processes, including litigation in court, mediation and arbitration tribunals.

In bankruptcy cases, Bob obtains relief from bankruptcy courts to permit clients to proceed with foreclosures and forfeitures; obtains repayment plans for clients; provides learned advice to creditors; represents committees of creditors; defends creditors against claims by trustees and creditors committees; and provides general bankruptcy advice and counseling.

“I treat all clients as my friends, and my friends deserve the best representation available. If I cannot provide it to them, I will find someone who can.”
Robert E. L. Wright

Experience

As a mediator, Bob helped settle a multimillion-dollar claim for wrongful conviction and imprisonment without ever filing a lawsuit or spending a single day in court, which provided the individual and his spouse with enough money to live comfortably for the rest of their lives while limiting the exposure of the government to available insurance.

As settlement counsel, Bob assisted a large corporate client in settling a claim, which had been pending with another law firm for over a year, by directing the case to mediation where he negotiated a settlement in one day, saving the company thousands of dollars in legal fees and providing them with an acceptable resolution within budget.

As a litigator, Bob obtained a dismissal of all claims against his client by clarifying the deadline for filing such claims, and then obtained a written opinion from the Michigan Court of Appeals upholding his interpretation of that deadline, saving his client and others like them, thousands of dollars in legal fees and eliminating any exposure on the underlying claims.

“I use my training and experience to recognize where there are problems with my client's matters, so that we may explore ways to turn those problems into advantages for them.”
