Intellectual Property Attorney Timothy J. Engling Joins Miller Canfield

The law firm of Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Timothy J. Engling has joined the firm as senior counsel in the Chicago office.  He concentrates his practice in patent, trademark and copyright protection as well as intellectual property-related dispute resolution, litigation avoidance, opinions, agreements, and licensing.

With a technical background in the mechanical and electromechanical arts, Engling counsels clients on intellectual property issues, including preparing and prosecuting applications; rendering patentability, design around, patent validity and infringement opinions; analyzing use and registrability of trademarks; and negotiating and drafting of patent, trademark and copyright agreements.  In addition, he handles IP aspects of corporate mergers and acquisitions and performs related due diligence.  He has filed dozens of patent and trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and foreign offices.

He is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He received his J.D. from the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, his LL.M. from The John Marshall Law School, and his B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

He is a member of the board and treasurer of the West Point Society of Chicago NFP and is active at his church.
